DR ZOT's RECOMMENDATIONS

I can recommend the following guitar and amp friends whom I've got to know over the years and where I've personally seen and played the quality of their gear and services. If you are looking for handmade guitars or amps, rare vintage items hard to find elsewhere, or great repair work, scroll down and check these out! - Dr Zot

MICK RIDGE AMP REPAIRS

One of the best looking and sounding amps in my small collection of classic valve amps is a 1948 Magnatone Troubador beautifully restored by Mick Ridge. Mick is based in Adelaide where he specialises in high quality work on guitar and bass amps. I can highly recommend his technical knowledge and eye for detail as well as musician's ear for great tone.

Contact Mick at mickridge@hotmail.com or 0411 138 753.

MARGINALLY IRRESPONSIBLE VINTAGE GUITARS

Dale Stevenson is a friendly Aussie who runs this delightfully-named website specialising in excellent examples of Harmony, Kay, Danelectro and related guitars, especially archtops, from the 1950s and '60s. Currently based in Vienna, Dale has an international network and is 'the' guy to talk to if you want to get hold of one these great vintage style and tone monsters before too many other guitar fans discover them!

LARK AMPS

Derek Lark repairs and makes valve amps in Canberra and his work is truly "vintage by design", for example his hand made Tweed and Princetone models. Derek has a great combination of technical skills, a musician's ear and fast, friendly service. Derek is a big part of our annual National Vintage Expo, and services all the amps that appear on the ZoT site.

TWANGCENTRAL

Terry runs my favourite guitar shop in Australia: Twangcentral at 208 Gilbert Street in Adelaide's historic south-west corner. I've known these guys for 35 years, done Vintage Guitar Shows with them, and have learned more about vintage Fenders from Terry than anyone else! If you're in Adelaide make sure to call in and meanwhile check out the website.

BERKETA GUITARS

Ray Berketa is one Australia's most experienced luthiers, starting his workshop back in the 1980s. He makes beautifully crafted steel string acoustics, spectacular solid body guitars such as his "Blue Angel" model, and on special order, carved-top jazz guitars, at his workshop in north Canberra, Australia.

Ray can be contacted through his website www.berketaguitars.com

COPLEY GUITARS

John Copley makes excellent round and square neck resonator guitars, flat top acoustics and ukuleles in Canberra, Australia. His guitars often feature fine Australian tone woods and have great responsiveness and projection. He's also made special order guitars such as a small bodied 13-fret neck lightly braced model.
