Vintage Ukuleles
Vintage ukuleles are wonderful instruments, and I especially like the look, feel and tone of Jonah Kumalae ukes made in Hawaii in the early 1900s. Kumalae had five main styles: left to right are Style 1 through to 5 from the ZoT collection. My other favourites are Martin and JR Stewart ukes from the 1920s and 30s, while the Maccaferri "Islander" plastic ukes from the 1950s, if in good crack-free condition, sound surprisingly good and intonate beautifully. I'll have a bunch of pre WW2 ukes on display and for sale at the Melbourne Ukulele Festival over the weekend of 10-11 March. 1931 National Style 0
This is an early, rare, "variation 1" bell-brass Style 0 as described in pages 84 - 87 of the Bob Brozman book "The History and Artistry of National Resonator Instruments". Both collectible and highly playable, this Style O features original tuners, nut, frets, coverplate and tailpiece but a 1937 cone. Good action for both slide and standard style playing. The tone: standback - it's loud and sweet. A particularly fine sounding example of this classic model. Bob played it when he was in Canberra in 2004 and declared it a winner. 1940 Oahu acoustic
Circa 1940 Oahu 'Na Li'i' acoustic square-neck lap guitar, in excellent condition with original case in good shape. Made for Oahu by Regal in Chicago, the name translates from the Hawaiian as "The Chief" or "The King", and this model, although small bodied (as appropriate for lap style playing), was the top of the line with bound solid spruce top, laminated birch back and sides and unique metal pyramid bridge, all of which gives very good volume and tone to match the charm and rarity of this product of the early 20th century era of Hawaiian guitar music.

1950 Gibson Southern Jumbo
If you know your Gibson acoustics you'll have an interest in this fine 1950 Southern Jumbo, which combines the lovely aesthetics and legendary tone of the slope-shoulder J45 model with additional high end appointments such as bound neck, split parallelogram fretboard markers, etc. This one has a very aged 'smokey' look to the original finish. 1970 Martin D12-20
Here's a rare Martin D12-20 from 1970. One owner, with original hard case, this fine 12 string dreadnought is in excellent playing condition, structurally perfect with low action and fabulous tone. Spruce top, mahogany back and sides, attractive two-tone decorative centre seam on back, slotted headstock, original in every way. A 40 year old Martin that is a playable as it is collectible. 1991 Gibson Chet Atkins SST
The Chet Atkins SST solid body acoustic-electric was designed by the legendary guitarist and produced by Gibson from 1987 until 2006; this one is from 1991. The spruce and mahogany body produces cool acoustic sounds with a bridge mounted transducer, allowing high volume levels without any feedback; hence a great stage guitar Nicely finished with star pattern inlays on the headstock and bridge, and gold plated hardware. 1995 Takamine 12 string

2001 Martin 000-15S
Waverly tuners, classic slotted headstock, X braced, high quality pickup option installed and a deluxe Martin hard case all in excellent condition. The "S" designation indicates a slightly wider nut for fingerpicking (1-3/4") and slightly more volume in body size for tone and volume on this fine all mahogany 2001 Martin 000-15S. Circa 1950 Magnatone MOTS Lap Steel
A great opportunity to have a classic lap steel to play and enjoy. Made by Magnatone Los Angeles in the good old days around the same time as Leo was just thinking about marketing the first Tele. Features cool grey-shading-to-violet MOTS (mother of toilet seat) body in excellent condition, chrome is great too, all the cosmetics are super cool on this Magnatone. But the bonus is the super hot pickup for sounds that are every bit as good as a Supro or Ric for David Lindley style steel excurions. No case with this one. 1962 Kay Speed Demon
This fine 1962 Kay K571 Speed Demon comes from the collection of a well-known Aussie blues performer (certification provided). A completely original example with the attractive chrome script Kay logo, Kluson tuners, nice straight neck, little fret wear, DeArmond "Speed-hump" pickup, original pickguard, bound neck, bound body. 1963 Fender Stratocaster refin
An early L series Stratocaster, serial # L07267, neck date Jul 63, this Strat has 'the' vintage feel and sound. Original: tuners, decal, body, pickups (two rewound), bridge and other hardware including bridge and tone pots. Not original: refin in black nitro and the 'guard is yellow rather than green tint, most likely late 60s, reissue whammy bar, replaced volume pot, and professional refret with 75% life in frets. 1965 Maton Ibis Bass
Not currently for sale but shown here for interest of Australian vintage instrument fans, this uber-rare Maton bass came out of the factory with padded black vinyl wrapped body, pearloid plastic bridge cover, gearstick knob, etc. All original with fitted Stanford case and in near mint condition. c. 1969 Guyatone Rockabilly '6120'
This guitar is definitely something special. A rare late 1960s Guyatone Gretsch copy which looks fantastic and sounds even better. Original black finish with binding everywhere, two great sounding pickups, excellent bigsby style whammy brdige, unusual original tortoiseshell guard, this guitar makes a statement. And everything works: nice straight neck, good frets,big tone from the two Jazzmaster style single coil pickups. 1972 Gibson ES340TD
A rare and attractive variant on the classic Gibson ES335 range, the high-end 340 features a master volume and blend control for the two humbucker pickups. This example is in excellent condition, completely originally apart from a perfect pro refret done a few years back. Case is original hard but not Gibson labelled. 1973 Guild X-175 Manhattan
A very fine 1973 Guild Manhattan X-175B (B for blonde)semi-acoustic archtop. Spruce top and maple back and sides show beautiful grain; finish is unmarked. The Guild humbucker pickups have individual tone / volume controls, plus master volume control and 3-way toggle switch. Gibson Tune-a-matic bridge fitted, original carved wooden bridge is in the case. Plays beautifully and in excellent original condition. Inside label shows slight damage but serial number on back of headstock is correct. Original hard shell case. A gorgeous jazz guitar.

1985 Fender MIJ Thinline Series 2
Many players have discovered the fine playability of "MIJ" Fenders.
